Enter your labor and material costs, choose a markup, and instantly see a suggested selling price, gross profit, and gross margin. No signup required.
Markup is added to your total cost. Margin is gross profit as a percentage of the selling price. Taxes and job-specific fees may still need to be added separately.
Markup and margin are not the same
A 25% markup on $800 of cost adds $200, giving a $1,000 selling price. That $200 profit is a 20% gross margin. If your goal is a 25% margin instead, the selling price needs to be $1,066.67.
| Markup | Equivalent margin |
|---|---|
| 10% | 9.1% |
| 25% | 20.0% |
| 50% | 33.3% |
| 100% | 50.0% |
Example: A job has $500 labor, $300 materials, and $100 of other costs. Total cost is $900. With a 25% markup, the selling price is $1,125 and gross profit is $225. With a target margin of 25%, the selling price is $1,200 and gross profit is $300.
